South Korea 23 April 2013: Ewha University

Today started out with a few hiccups. I had planned to visit Gyeongbokgung. But when we reached the subway station, we realised the palace is close on every Tuesday. Sigh.. I should had done my research better. So we moved to our next day itinerary which was Ewha Womans University  I always wonder why it was spelled as Womans instead of Women. But this famous university had appeared in numerous Korean dramas. It was indeed captivating with old Victoria styled buildings surrounding its new unique centre architecture. The pear and sakura blossoms were in full bloom too making the place every more mesmerizing.

The streets around Ewha University were lined with plenty of good shops with great bargain. But it started raining soon so it was no fun to shopping in the wet and cold weather. We had only visited a few shops when the rain get heavier and we had to retreat. Still we managed to buy 5 pairs of shoes, a few blouses, a sling bag and plenty of facial masks and lotions. We had a red spicy sweet dukbokki and ramen stew. Superbly junky and loaded full of carbs. There goes my diet...

Above, Mei Mei with her favourite boyband member G-Dragon. Haha.

On the way back to the apartment, we spotted a cafe at Hongdae that looked like a hobbit house. There is a lot of weird looking cafes and restuarants around Hongdae. We bought a sour cream apple pie from Peggy Pie for tea. It goes well with makgeolli, a kind of sweet alcoholic beverage made from rice. It was really a blissful afternoon, with the rain outside as we laid on the heated floor of our small room, sipping makgeolli and sharing a pie.

Suddenly I thought of a song to share with Mei mei. Don't know why I always feel like listening to Leona Lewis's Better in Time when it rains.

Later in the evening, we went to Sinchon intending for more shopping. Of course the harsh rain and freezing wind stopped us halfway so we went for Korean BBQ instead! Yummy!
