South Korea 21 April 2013: Jeju Day Tour Part 1

We hired a driver for today. Mr Choi picked us up at 7.30am from the guesthouse. As it was still early, he took us a beautiful beach.

Field of chives.

Then we proceed to Manjang Cave 만장굴. The cave is actually one of the few lava tunnels in the world that is open to public. Since it was only 9am, we were the first persons in the cave.

After that, we proceed to the Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak ask Sunrise Peak 성산일출봉. The place was green which matched the clear blue sky and ocean with just the right amount of sunshine. Mr Choi said it was raining for the past couple of days so we were indeed lucky to today's good weather.

It took us 30 minutes to ascend the peak. The view on the top looked surreal and the grassland looked well manicured. I wondered if someone was employed to mow the grass...

At the bottom of the peak, there is a beach with many potholes left by the lava. We took the speedboat out the sea along the coastlines. It was bumpy and trilling. The ride cost 10000 won for 7 minutes.

We saw wild rapeseed flowers by the road.

Upon Mr Choi recommendation, we had seafood hotpot 해물훠궈 in one of the restaurant near the sunrise peak for lunch. The dish was spicy, delicious and only costed 40000 won! We visited the Haenyeo Museum 해녀박물관. Haenyeo refers to female divers who dive into the ocean water to fish for abalones and various shellfish  These ladies had hard lives in the old days where they needed to dive into the freezing cold water wearing only thin cottons. It was worth a visit to appreciated the life and comforts we have today.
