Melbourne Family Trip Oct 2012 - Day 4 & 5 Family Gathering

Day 4 A visit to Shi Yee and Uncle Neo’s house

Shi Yee’s house is at the suburb so we ordered a maxi-cab to take us there today. Isn’t it lucky that the cab can take a maximum of 11 people? Woo hoo… what a wonderful coincidence! Shi Yee cried when we alighted from the cab. All the sisters (my aunts) hugged together and started tearing too. Such a touching reunion!

Shi Yee had been busy the whole day making lunch for us. We had fried rice, curry, chicken wing, red bean soup, almond jelly and many more. She is a great cook and we do miss her cooking. After that, it was R&R time for the youngsters as Uncle Neo hook up internet connection for our iphones and ipads. The seniors were busy updating and reminiscing their childhood memories. There were bountiful of laughter and tears. We left only in the evening. Shi Yee asked her brother and sisters to come visit her again. Her brother, my uncle who is always the joker, said that the next visit would be easier since he would just drop down from heaven. That was quickly greeted by a round of “Choy” from the rest. Haha.

Day 5 Queen Victoria Market and Casino again

This morning, Shi Yee and Uncle Neo came to city to join our city tour. We went to Victoria Market to shop for chocolates, cheese, smoked salmon, nougats, abalone macadamia nuts, navel oranges and golden kiwis. We ate the freshest Tasmanian coffin bay oysters with a squeeze of lemons. My advice is to get the oysters from the shop on the left nearest to the entrance from Elizabeth street. Their oysters were the fattest and creamiest and cost only a little more that the norm.

We had our lunch in Chinatown followed by a tour around the vicinity. Then it was back to you guess right… the casino. I guess we Chinese do like to gamble and that is why Singapore government implemented the entry levy for locals to enter our own casino. I wouldn’t imagine what would happen if the law was not imposed on them.

That night, Shi Yee bunk in with us at our apartments. Of course, the sisters and brother chatted till late night.
