Historic People – East meets West

I realised that Chinese loved to commemorate ancient scholar, philosopher or poet. Famous names like Li Bai (李白), Du Fu (杜甫), Qu Yuan (屈原), Su Dong Po (蘇東坡), Confucius (孔子) whose poems, calligraphies, paintings and books are recorded as precious Chinese classical literature that extends thousands of years. Since young, my parents will make me recite the 300 Tang Poems (唐詩三百首) and Standards for being a Good Pupil and Child (弟子規). However, not much was recorded for inventors. I only know the four great inventions in Chinese history which as paper, printing, gun powder and compass but never know the names of these inventors.

Elsewhere in the West, great inventors are celebrated throughout the world. I give my thanks especially to these inventors who makes my life a lot easier:
- Alexander Graham Bell for telephone
- Thomas Edison for the light bulb, motion picture camera.
- Charles Francis Jenkins & Philo Farnsworth for television.
- Willis Haviland Carrier for the first air condition.
- Konrad Zuse for the first computer.
- Wright brothers for the first airplane.
- Karl Benz for the first car and Henry Ford for the first series of affordable car.
